Pumped Up Kicks

Robert's got a quick hand
He'll look around the room
He won't tell you his plan
He's got a rolled cigarette hanging out his mouth
He's a cowboy kid
Yeah, he found a six-shooter gun
In his dad's closet hidden in a box of fun things
And I don't even know what
But he's coming for you, yeah, he's coming for you

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet

Daddy works a long day
He be coming home late, yeah, he's coming home late
And he's bringing me a surprise
Because dinner's in the kitchen and it's packed in ice
I've waited for a long time
Yeah, the slight of my hand is now a quick pull trigger
I reason with my cigaretteAnd say your hair's on fire
You must have lost your wits, yeah

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, outrun my gun
All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You'd better run, better run, faster than my bullet

I love the beat and the sound of this song, so like vintage or oldies. Plus the music video! Some scenes are lomo-ish which added character to the song. I just like the cliff diving and surfing, the live set and the humming part. And yes definitely, I love Foster the People (they're cute). When I first heard the song, which was in Mellow FM 94.7, I thought it was The Beatles.

It's really good to hear this genre (electro-pop), it serves just a right break from hearing Lady Gaga and loud songs of today.

In contrast to the lively and shoe-tapping beat is the dark lyrics of the song. There's this Robert kid who's thinking about going on a killing spree to those other kids with pumped up kicks. Kids with the pumped up kicks refers to those who are well-off and had that nicest and newest tings (specifically the kicks). His dad don't have time for him and he has ostracized himself from his friends. So you see he is like an outcast and loner here.

This often happens to some youths of today. Like, their outside is great and fine, while the inside is about to explode.
And I believe in few months time, I'm going to be like Robert. I'm going crazy. I just wish I won't resort to a killing spree. :)
